i first learned about you when a friend sent me a video of yours recently where you crushed some chess hustlers. i don't play chess at all but i got to walk past guys like that all the time while i lived in nyc before i moved back to toronto, and i always hoped i'd see someone give them a run for their money someday.

turning a historically-nerd-culture hobby into a passionate career that takes us out of toronto and all over the world is an incredible thing. it's also something you and i have in common. i know how much drive it takes to forge this kind of path, so it's something i respect the hell out of.

a bit about me: i'm 28, born and raised in toronto. studied engineering, dropped out to build a bank for students in nyc, burned out, and fell back in love with magic: the gathering. built the biggest tournament-finding site for the game, turned it into a company, sold it — and now i run another trading card game software company that i love dearly.

i'm hopping around europe for the next few weeks, but i'd love to grab coffee or a drink with you next month in toronto. i think we'd have great banter. from what i could understand you can play well on raw intuition, this is exactly how i was when i played magic — this actually is what kicked off doing standup comedy for me, i would (lovingly) roast my opponents while playing under time pressure lol.

anyway — that's the pitch. here's my actual hinge profile (sorry, lmao) and a couple places to find me. lmk, and ill send a resy over

prompts:

my simple pleasures

doing standup comedy, playing magic the gathering, going to the sauna — i love having chaotically unrelated friend groups

i want someone who

knows their calling & loves their mission in life, big or small, whether that's a hobby, friends, or career — and is supportive of mine (making software for nerds, lol)

together we could

belt pop punk at karaoke; get 10 hours of sleep; cry to frank ocean; yap about our microobsessions to each other
